Why Dark Horse Exists

Gary Jolicoeur didn't start Dark Horse Home Improvements because it was the easy path. He started it because he was disappointed.

Disappointed at contractors who took deposits and disappeared. Disappointed at shoddy work that left homeowners stuck with someone else's mess. Disappointed at the reputation that bad actors were giving honest tradespeople across the industry.

Gary had spent years working in people's homes — and being told, again and again, that he was different. That he was the kind of tradesman people wished they could find more of. Professional. Meticulous. Respectful of your space, your budget, and your time. So eventually, he listened.

Founder & Owner

Gary is a dual Red Seal endorsed Plumber and Carpenter — a rare combination that means he brings certified expertise to both the structural and mechanical sides of every renovation. He's never been the kind of person who could sit behind a desk. He's always been building things, solving problems with his hands, and finding satisfaction in work that lasts.

Trades run deep in Gary's family. Plumbers, insulators, painters, and electricians: shop talk is a family tradition. That network of knowledge and skill informs everything Gary does on the job. Backed by family members Nick (Labourer), Dustin (Plumber), Cal (Labourer), and his wife Candace keeping the business running behind the scenes, Dark Horse is a family effort, through and through.
